Program Description



The Vancouver College of Dental Hygiene is part of Canada’s largest private educational facility that is dedicated to the highest standards of dental hygiene education.

Program Duration



The Program curriculum at The Vancouver College of Dental Hygiene is approximately eighteen months in duration. It is presented in four semesters of eighteen weeks each. Breaks in between semesters will vary from one to two weeks in length.
 

Course Curriculum



The curriculum follows the standard dental hygiene process of care. The program will prepare the students to assume a position as a dental hygienist capable of providing preventive and therapeutic dental hygiene services using this process.

The program provides academic studies, clinical dexterity skill development and field placement necessary to achieve and maintain optimum oral health for clients/patients in a sound professional manner.

All procedures performed for the client are based on an individual needs and the client/patient is perceived as a partner-in-care.

The student evaluates the care that is provided to the client/patient by determining short versus long-term goals and implementing techniques for continued care.

Academic Studies will enable the students to use a systematic approach implementing the most current standards and ethical principals.

The program will offer the students topics regarding business practices related to employment and self-employment issues.

Dental Hygiene students demonstrate their learning and performance achievements on mannequins and later on clients in the school dental clinic.

Students will have an opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge, skills and attitudes that are necessary to be effective care providers in a variety of Community field placements.

The dental hygiene program offered at The Vancouver College of Dental Hygiene includes at minimum, similar course hours and basic fundamentals offered by comparable programs in British Columbia Community Colleges.
 

Students Responsibility



All Students are responsible for providing their own dental clients for the clinical component of the program as well as surgical loupes.
 

Faculty Staff



The faculty members are professionals in the dental field that include British Columbia Registered Dental Hygienists, British Columbia Licensed Dentists and other Highly qualified health professionals chosen based on experience and their educational background.
 

Campus Facility



The Vancouver College of Dental Hygiene allows all of the dental hygiene education to take place on campus. The 16,000 square foot facility includes modern educational classrooms, laboratories, a library which includes computers with high speed Internet service,a student study area and student lounge with lockers. The clinic area includes 31 complete operational dental units in which some are equipped with x-ray units.
 

British Columbia Dental Hygiene Registration Requirements



The Course curriculum of study will be assessed by the NDHCB (on an individual basis) and the graduates will either be granted permission to write the NDHCB( National Dental Hygiene Certification Board) examination .Once the NDHCB approves the graduate to write the board exam the graduate then is eligible to apply to the CDHBC Clinical Competency Examination.

In order to be Registered as a Dental Hygienist in British Columbia, currently graduates of The Vancouver College of Dental Hygiene must apply and pass both of the aforementioned examinations.

Successful Dental Hygiene National Certification Certificate holders are then eligible to apply to the Provincial Regulatory Authorities. Once these steps are completed full Registration is available to the dental hygienist.

All fees associated with Registration post graduation is the responsibility of the individual student.
